Abstract
An overdamped chain of balls connected by ideal springs in a sinusoidal potential is examined and the response to periodic forcing is discussed from the viewpoint of dynamical systems theory. Discrete multivariate mappings are derived from the coupled differential equations that describe the motion, and the behavior of these mappings is discussed. Keywords
