Growth factors for bacteria

Abstract
The stimulatory action of protein hydrolysates on certain propionic acid bacteria is due partly to an acetone and alcohol extractible factor which is not a part of the protein molecule. The properties of the factor are similar to those of vitamin B1, and crystalline B1 completely replaces it in a concn. of 0.5[gamma] per 100 ml. of medium.
