Abstract
A numerical method for solving the advection‐diffusion equation, based on the semi‐Lagrangian algorithm of Robert (1981, 1982) is described, analysed and evaluated in comparison with other methods through a series of test problems. It is found that this method is generally better than other semi‐Lagrangian methods, and is a viable alternative to existing methods for LRTAP and other meteorological modelling because of its flexibility in application, its computational stability and its accuracy. Keywords
