Abstract
A differential anomalous X-ray scattering (DAS) study of the liquid-phase structure of a mixture of toluene and tetrabromomethane is presented. Synchrotron radiation was used for two diffraction experiments at photon energies of 12 500 and 13 454 eV. Photoabsorption coefficients obtained from an absorption experiment were used for the calculation of the dispersion corrections. The differential structure factor and its Fourier transform, the differential atom pair correlation function (DAPCF), were obtained after an intricate data evaluation procedure. The analysis of the DAPCF provides strong evidence for the existence of a 1 : 1 molecular complex CBr4-toluene in the liquid, suggesting a weak but genuine intermolecular interaction. Keywords
