Abstract
Using three compelling case studies, Peter Johnston examines the psychological and social determinants of reading failure — factors that he feels have been generally overlooked in main-stream reading theory. Extensive verbal reports by the three male participants reflect the effects that anxiety, maladaptive strategies, conflicting motives, and causal attributions have on reading ability.Keywords
