Aspects of the Choice of Contraceptives after Legal Abortion in relation to Psychological Masculinity-Femininity and Psychosocial Functions

Abstract
The possible relation between contraception and some psycho-sexual functions and personality variables was investigated in 92 women. The choice and use of a certain contraceptive method during 1 year after legal abortion was correlated to psycho-sexual anamnesis and psychological femininity-masculinity as measured by a personal inventory (Attitude Interest Schedule). Variables like age, sexual debut, dysmenorrhea and sexual activity were found to be clearly more important than psychological masculinity-femininity in discriminating between women who used the pill or the IUD. Some support was found for the hypothesis that women who are less traditional in their role orientation tend to prefer the pill.
