Abstract
Elective nursing courses focusing on contemporary social and political issues set the stage for planned change by nurses. Courses that require a high level of student involvement increase students' awareness of issues and enable them to see the relevance of these issues to their daily nursing activities. Three such courses, based on adult learning principles, show how students can be made aware of the need for change. Keywords
