Abstract
The past twenty-five years has witnessed a remarkable change in the conception of cardiovascular disorders; from the beginning of the twentieth century, each year has added some new and important facts to the sum total of the knowledge of this group of conditions. New instruments, new procedures, new methods of examination have all contributed to this advance. Into the phraseology of medicine during this time have crept terms which formerly were unnecessary and unheard of, but with the widespread application of methods that previously were exclusively of laboratory and academic importance the vocabulary of the physician has been considerably enriched. At the same time, however, the concepts of the older clinicians have not been entirely abandoned; traditional thought is not easily relinquished. In no instance is this more true than in the fundamental medical sciences. Even a casual inspection of a modern medical dictionary will serve to impress the readerKeywords
