Abstract
The average thickness of the uterine wall was 7.32 [plus or minus] 1.8 (S. D.) mm, with muscle layers constituting 4.96 [plus or minus] 1.5 mm and the mucosa 2.36 [plus or minus] 0.74 mm. It was estimated that 30% of the variation in muscle thickness was due to age, independent of number of calvings. The average number of gland cross sections per square millimeter was 55 [plus or minus] 24 with no apparent difference due to age or number of calvings. The outside diameter of normal glands averaged 52.1 [plus or minus] 13.9 [mu], the lumen diameters averaged 27.5 [plus or minus] 9.5 [mu], and the cell heights were 11.7 [plus or minus] 3.3 [mu]. Cystic uterine glands were found in 11.1% of the cows. Arterial elastosis was observed in uterine sections from 56.5% of the parous cattle and from 3.9% of the heifers. This publication has 5 references indexed in Scilit:
