Abstract
Patients with suspect allergic contact dermatitis (2,306 women and 1,743 men) were patch tested in 14 clinics in North America between August 1985 and July 1989. While allergic contact dermatitis was equally represented in the two genders, irritant contact dermatitis and occupational dermatitis were more common in men. Hand, foot, and generalized skin eruptions were more common in men while face, neck, and eyelids were more common locations in women. Differences in the frequency of response to 13 of the test chemicals in the two genders were evident. Keywords
