Abstract
The region of validity of conventional hot-wire signal analysis and the accuracy of the values of the flow parameters calculated using this analysis have been investigated and an alternative analysis of hot-wire signals is proposed. Furthermore, the loss of accuracy is determined in the values obtained for the flow parameters when the cooling contribution of the velocity components binormal to the hot-wire probe is neglected and a criterion for the determination of the streamline direction of one- and two-dimensional flows is proposed. Keywords
