Abstract
A systematic content analysis revealed that humor is frequently employed in contemporary communication textbooks. Substantial differences were found in the amount and type of humor employed in speech, interpersonal, and mass communication texts: The bulk of the humor was judged to be used to teach rather than to attract or entertain. Keywords
