Psychosis in Fabry Disease and Treatment With Phenoxybenzamine

Abstract
The first known reported occurrence of psychosis in Fabry disease is presented. Of considerable interest is the observation that treatment with the α-adrenergic blocking agent phenoxybenzamine hydrochloride (Dibenzyline) was related quite unexpectedly to remission of psychotic signs and symptoms on two separate occasions. This finding suggests that the drug acted as an antipsychotic agent in this patient. Whether the mechanism of action was related to its sympatholytic properties, its neuroleptic effects, or to other, unknown actions is not clear.
