Abstract
This paper examines the manifestation of white racist talk in multi‐racial adolescent peer interactions. The primary focus is the phenomenon of racist name calling. Through documenting a series of name calling incidents an analysis is made of the context within which ‘race’ is evoked. I show that while there exists a significant area of experience shared by both black and white youth that denies the significance of race or colour, racist discourses continually break through in the form of name calling. Keywords
