Abstract
Laboratory mixtures of terpenes and extracts derived from native pine trees are analyzed by using a wall-coated opentubular Carbowax capillary column in a gas chromatography/Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (GC/FTIR) system. The sensitivity and efficiency of the system are superior to those obtained using packed GC columns. Sample quantities of 300 ng were routinely identified using a long-wavelength detector. For overlapping GC peaks, the method of factor analysis is utilized and found to be helpful in determining the number of co-eluting components. The results are discussd in terms of the improvements in GC/FTIR and its routine application to terpene analysis. This publication has 5 references indexed in Scilit:
