Abstract
The general concensus of opinion relative to the treatment of fractures of the shaft of the femur in children seems to be that good functional results may be obtained by the universal application of one or two of the methods now commonly used. Although this may be true to a great extent, we believe that each case should be handled as a separate problem, that the type of treatment instituted should depend on the character of the fracure and the age of the child, and that by the proper application of the most suitable type of treatment we can more nearly approach anatomical results. With these thoughts in mind, we have made a study of and are reporting the thirty-two cases of fracture of the shaft of the femur in children under 12 years of age who were treated in the Cincinnati General Hospital between Feb. 1, 1922, and Jan.Keywords
