Abstract
A review of the collected experiences with conteben, 4-acetylaminobenzaldehyde thiosemicarbazone, which has been used in Germany in the treatment of over 10,000 patients with various forms of tuberculosis. Miliary tuberculosis and tuberculous meningitis are not satisfactorily controlled by conteben therapy. Cavernous processes often respond very impressively to oral admn. of the drug. The best tendency toward healing has been shown by mucous membrane tuberculosis. Toxicity is pronounced in thiosemicarbazone therapy. Agranulocytosis and granulocytopenia have been observed. The effect of conteben on liver function has not yet been detd.
