STUDIES ON RECOVERY OF THE REPRODUCTIVE SYSTEM OF THE MALE RAT FROM REGRESSIVE CHANGES INDUCED BY STILBESTROL1

Abstract
17 [male] rats were treated with 1 mg. of stilbestrol 3 times weekly for 58 days. They were then semi-castrated and each placed with 2 test [female][female] to determine the interval necessary to attain a functional level. At the end of treatment all animals were sterile. 13 of 17 [male] rats recovered sufficiently to effect successful impregnation. The mean time required for the remaining testicle to recover a functional level was 47.5 days. Statistical comparison of the reproductive organs after recovery with those of untreated controls revealed no significant weight differences. In some cases histological studies showed that only partial recovery of the remaining testicle had occurred.
