Abstract
EDITOR,--J E Charlton highlights the hazards of gastrointestinal endoscopy carried out under sedation.1 These dangers are not confined to adults. In a prospective study of 32 children undergoing gastrointestinal endoscopy under sedation, desaturation (oxygen saturation of 90% or less) occurred in 37.5%; this desaturation was unpredictable and failed to correlate with the patient's weight, age, or tolerance of the procedure.2 In another prospective …Keywords
