Abstract
We propose a simple method of analyzing spectral line profiles in non-radially oscillating, rotating stars in order to determine the spherical harmonic order of the oscillation. Unlike the usual method, profile modelling is not required. Moreover, the proposed method automatically gives the periods of oscillation and provides information on the projected rotational velocity and angle of inclination. In the conventional method of analysis, these quantities are normally chosen by trial and error until the best fit is achieved. The new method requires just the first two or three moments of the line profile, involving only trivial calculations. The periodograms of these moments and Fourier amplitudes and phases of the resulting frequencies are used to determine the modes. Keywords
