Abstract
Immunological, salt-precipitation and electrophoretic methods of investigation have been combined in a study of (a) the changes in serum proteins of lambs on ingestion of colostrum at birth, (b) the effect of delaying the ingestion of colostrum on these changes and (c) the occurrence of any proteinuria in this connexion. The results show that there is an increase in serum globulin largely due to one electrophoretic component and an appearance of antibody, when colostrum is given up to 29 hrs. but not at 48 hrs. or more after birth. Following the ingestion of colostrum the lambs showed a marked proteinuria, characterized by the presence of globulin and antibody. Keywords
