Abstract
Intraven. infusion of epinephrine or hypoglycemia produced by insulin in normal individuals or in allergic patients caused a drop in the circulating eosinophiles. This action was found to be independent of blood pressure or blood flow. Three patients were treated with these substances. One case had rheumatoid arthritis for 8 yrs. and received a combination of the intraven. epinephrine and insulin hypoglycemia. The treatment resulted in a marked drop in the sedimentation rate and disappearance of pain and stiffness in muscles and joints. He was treated for approx. 1 month. Another patient had muscular rheumatism extending over a 2-yr. period. The clinical improvement was marked. Similar treatment was carried out in a 3d patient who had had recurrent attacks of acute fibrositis for 6 yrs. A 7-day course of epinephrine in oil treatment completely removed the pain and stiffness.
