Abstract
An exploratory study was conducted to investigate clinical observations of older women's interests in sexuality, Interviews with 10 high functioning women with an average age of 68.8 years revealed that while incidence of sexuality has declined, their overall satisfaction with sex has stayed the same or increased from when they were younger. The lack of a sexual partner or illness of a spouse were typical reasons reported for the decline in sexual activity. A descriptive summary of these interviews is followed by a discussion of the implications for therapy. Several case examples are used to illustrate the benefits of initiating discussions of sexuality with older women in therapy. Keywords
