Abstract
Trees in an active sand dune region of Michigan were studied. Borings of both living and dead trees were made and the width of the annual rings graphed. Due to variable weather conditions it was possible to cross graph records of living and dead trees and to show that some of the trees had been dead for 160 years with the annual progression of the sand into the living forest amounting to 3.12 feet per yr.
