Ossification of spinal ligaments causing thoracic radiculomyelopathy.

Abstract
Fourteen patients with thoracic radiculomyelopathy, due mainly to ossification of the ligamentum flavum [8], posterior longitudinal ligament [2] or both [4], were reviewed. Other spinal ligamentous structures were occasionally involved, including the joint capsule, the anterior longitudinal ligament or even the dura mater; sclerosis of the lamina or shortening of the pedicles was sometimes seen. Plain radiographs illustrate the characteristic features of these lesions and are indispensable for screening while CT [computed tomography] accurately defines the extent of ossification.
