Abstract
A case was reported of severe thrombocytopenia following oral cholecystography with iopanoic acid, a widely used contrast medium. Bone marrow aspirate showed increased numbers of megakaryocytes, suggesting thrombocytopenia due to enhanced peripheral destruction of platelets. This examination was not reported in the previously described 2 cases. Although hematological reactions due to iopanoic acid are very rare, patients should be questioned regarding any preceding drug-induced purpura before oral cholecystography is started. This publication has 6 references indexed in Scilit:
