Abstract
As part of an investigation of contact-stress problems, it became necessary to build an interferometer to calibrate certain strain transducers. The strain under investigation was produced by simple harmonic stresses with loads consisting of internal energy dissipation. The calibration was performed under unloaded conditions. The results of this calibration gave confidence in the validity of the method used. The disappearing Fizeau fringe technique was used in the interferometric measurement of vibration amplitudes. Keywords
