Awareness and knowledge of AIDS in Zambia

Abstract
Acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS) is a global concern that has forced the governments of many countries to mount massive campaigns to educate their citizens about the deadly disease. Zambia is no exception. In doing so, the Ministry of Health of Zambia takes cognisance of the need to complement mass media with face-to-face communication, as well as targeting messages to specific groups with high-risk behaviour. The Health Education Unit is also sensitive to the results of internal evaluation which are utilized to chart the future course of the education campaign. This paper demonstrates to those implementing AIDS campaigns the importance of conducting and utilizing the results of evaluation to feedback into their programme.
