Abstract
Leucine aminopeptidase activity was demonstrated histochemically in the thyroid gland of the rat. It was most clearly found in the epithelium of the follicles. Slight activity was also present in colloid. The administration of methyl-thiouracil markedly diminished this activity. The methylthiouracil effect on leucine aminopeptidase seemed to be of short duration, since it was already abolished ten days after treatment. The physiological significance of leucine aminopeptidase with particular reference to its possible relationship to the proteolytic system previously found in the thyroid tissue is discussed. Keywords
