Abstract
The interaction between kinetin and naphthaleneacetic acid (NAA) in regulating growth of potato tissue cultures has been used to examine the extent of synchrony between changes in DNA synthesis and pathway participation of glucose catabolism. A series of experiments confirmed that kinetin added to the medium stimulated glucose catabolism via the pentose phosphate pathway when it induced DNA synthesis. A similar trend was found for the level of NADP and NAD kinase activity in cultured explants. These findings and relevant data suggest that kinetin added to a medium containing the standard addition of NAA promoted DNA synthesis as well as glucose oxidation by increasing the availability of NADP in the cultured explants. This publication has 12 references indexed in Scilit:
