Malignant Ocular Melanoma During Pregnancy

Abstract
MALIGNANT MELANOMA of the eye during pregnancy has rarely been seen by either the ophthalmologist or obstetrician. There have been at least three reports in the literature of patients who were pregnant at the time of enucleation of an eye containing a melanoma. The infrequency of the reported instances of pregnancy coexistent with melanoma of the choroid and the fulminating course has prompted the following report. Report of a Case A 31-year-old patient had been pregnant for 6 months when she reported loss of vision in her left eye of about 4 weeks' duration. There was no associated pain or redness. Ophthalmological examination on Jan 13, 1961, revealed that vision in the left eye was limited to perception of hand movements and the vision in the right eye was equal to 20/20.
