Relation of a Specific Strain of Salmonella to Ulcerative Cecitis of Rats

Abstract
A specific strain of Salmonella has been invariably isolated from the ulcers of rat cecitis, but, with one exception, was not obtained in the absence of ulcers. Agglutinins for the specific strain of Salmonella were found in most of the rats of the colony, although the titer was higher in animals with visible cecitis. Feeding the specific Salmonella in appropriate doses was followed, after a long- period, by cecitis in many of the animals. Association of other synergistic agents seems improbable.
