ULTRASONIC EXPERIMENTS WITH PICOSECOND TIME RESOLUTION

Abstract
We describe a new method which can be used to make ultrasonic measurements with picosecond time resolution. The method can be used to study samples in which the acoustic path length is very short and the ultrasonic attenuation very large. We describe the theory of the generation and detection process, and present some attenuation and velocity measurements we have made by this method
