Abstract
Everyone has heard about incompetence of thigh perforating veins. General practitioners in referral letters often suggest them to the surgeon. Yet they are difficult to diagnose and treat. Thigh perforator incompetence is seldom the only site of incompetence in the affected limb and the relative importance of each site can only be surmised. Even after treatment the surgeon may be uncertain if this source of incompetence has been successfully ablated and uncertain if the result will be durable. Three papers on this topic are reviewed which answer some of the important questions about the frequency of the problem and the sites of thigh perforators.
