Abstract
Brief descriptions and developmental times of the immature stages of A. suspensa (Loew) are given with emphasis on the methods of identifying larval stages. On the basis of larval mouth hook measurements, 3 larval instars were established. Larvae having mouth hooks with average lengths of 39.2 .+-. 0.25 .mu., 141.7 .+-. 0.54 .mu. and 225.0 .+-. 1.14 .mu. are 1st, 2nd and 3rd instars, respectively. At 26 .+-. 2.degree. C, 60 .+-. 5% RH [relative humidity] and a L:D [light/darkness] period of 14:10, the egg stage lasts an average of 68.5 .+-. 2.1 h while the 1st, 2nd and 3rd instars last 1.8 .+-. 0.1 days, 1.7 .+-. 0.03 days, and 2.9 .+-. 0.7 days, respectively. Under these conditions, pupal duration is 14.1 .+-. 2 days. Measurements of anterior respiratory organs (prothoracic spiracular organs) and cephalopharyngeal skeletons of larval stages are also given.
