Abstract
Instructions for Pediatric Patients adds yet another option to the multitude of preprinted and/or computerized instructions for patients. It is up to date and the format is functional and appropriate for readers with at least a sixth- to eighth-grade reading level. Each of the pages is serrated and contains a blank space for including the pediatrician's name and telephone number. The pages can be photocopied for patient use. In the preface, the author discusses the benefits of printed educational material. His suggestion to give the information sheets to parents before seeing the patient is a good idea. The book is divided into seven sections. The first, "New Baby Care," includes instructions on circumcision, diaper rash, jaundice, spitting up, teething, and others. The section on feeding and eating includes instructions on breast- and formula-feeding, weaning, cholesterol testing, and food allergies.
