Abstract
The clinical assessment procedures for patients being considered for a cochlear implant was outlined. As the procedure was new and required rigorous evaluation, it was considered preferable only to operate on a limited number of patients and ensure that they had a thorough evaluation before and after surgery. This was carried out by a team whose members had experience in otology, audiology, aural rehabilitation, acoustics and psychology. The indications and contraindications for surgery were also outlined. This publication has 6 references indexed in Scilit:
