Abstract
This research substantiates the importance that quality of care and person-environment congruence have in determining the subjective well-being of older persons in institutions for the aged. Of the variables included, continuing ties with people, personal responsibilities, and social need gratification appear to have the greatest importance in determining morale, life satisfaction, and satisfaction with treatment. This study indicates the need for resident services departments in long term care facilities and suggests roles for resident services staff, and areas of involvement for family members and friends in the care of institutionalized aged. Keywords
