Abstract
Vulval pain can be an especially distressing problem. It is a more frequent symptom than was previously recognized. Patients suffering from vulval pain may present directly to a wide range of health care professionals, including sexual therapists. On the other hand, the complaint of vulval pain may come to light when a woman presents with a sexual or relationship problem; in such a situation vulval pain may be the cause or the result of the sexual or relationship problem. All patients complaining of vulval pain should be properly examined and appropriate treatment instigated. Sometimes a multidisciplinary approach is required.
