Measurements on waveguide properties of GeO 2 -SiO 2 -cored optical fibres

Abstract
Total attenuation and scatter loss measurements have been made on optical-fibre waveguides produced with graded refractive-index profiles in GeO-2-SiO2 cores. The total attenuation of the fibres at semiconductor-laser wavelengths has been reduced to less than 4 dB/km.
