Abstract
Eight abused and neglected toddlers (aged 1–3 years) and eight matched controls were videotaped interacting with caregivers in a daycare center. Abused children avoided contact and interaction. When gender was taken into account, abused females exhibited avoidance behavior and abused males, while less affected, exhibited signs of more active behavior. Keywords
