Abstract
Attention is called to the fact that many workers have obtained negative results in isolation of Bact. granulosis from trachoma, and that in some cases removal of large amounts of material, as in tarsectomy operations, is apparently necessary to obtain the organism. Exps. by the writer indicate that the granular condition induced by direct transfer of material from trachoma cases is less readily transmissible than that induced by inoculation with cultures of Bact. granulosis, though it is not certain whether this difference is of significance. Presence of epithelial-cell inclusions in trachoma is a matter of interest, and the question is raised as to what is the nature of these bodies and their relationship to a disease which is now considered by many as not due to a filterable virus. This publication has 2 references indexed in Scilit:
