Abstract
Based on a previous formulation by Benlarbi et al. (1980) the diffraction properties of a thick, unslanted phase grating are investigated and compared, in specific examples, with the predictions of Kogenlik's (1969) two-wave theory. The agreement between the two theories is shown to depend on the amplitude of a dimensionless parameter. Keywords
