The Response of Triticale and Related Cereals to Conditions Inducing Preharvest Sprouting

Abstract
Grain samples of cultivars of bread wheat, durum, Triticale, and cereal rye exposed to sprouting conditions by delayed harvesting were assessed for sprouting damage by the Hagberg Falling Number Method and by α-amylase estimation. Triticale lines in the trial generally showed high amounts of α-amylase activity throughout the test period. An International Nursery of Triticale breeding stocks was also screened for α-amylase. Some selections with low enzyme content may be useful as parental stocks for this character.
