Abstract
A standard quantitative method for electrophoresis, involving the Abramson eleetrophoresis instrument, is descr., and possible errors in technique are pointed out. Production of an exptl. parabola of particle mobility with depth is no proof that the stationary levels determined by Smoluchowski for flat cells can be used. Using the techniques here outlined, the value given by Abramson for the electric mobility of the human erythrocyte has been obtained. The precision of the cell in the investigation of proteins has been tested. It is suggested that the indiscriminate use of distilled water as a suspending medium is not to be recommended. Data presented show the amt. of va-riation to be expected in the investigation of quartz, gelatin, and bacterial surfaces. Unless data are accompanied by a statement concerning the construction of the cell used and the method of determining the field strength, results must be accepted with caution. This publication has 18 references indexed in Scilit:
