Abstract
The algae in samples of net plankton from some Canadian lakes are recorded and those of special interest discussed. The majority are supposedly well-known algae which, in fact, are either imperfectly known or the subject of such disagreements among specialists that they have been and still are described under more than one generic or specific name. This has led to misunderstandings about the type of phytoplankton present in some Canadian lakes. Judging by the present samples and the papers of the late Professor D. S. Rawson, the more oligotrophic lakes are dominated by diatoms and the more eutrophic ones by a mixture of these and Cyanophyta. Keywords
