Abstract
By incubation under CO2, rapid formation of well circumscribed, typical colonies of Saccharomycopsis guttulata was achieved on a comparatively simple solid medium. With this method, 27 strains were isolated in pure culture from stomachs or excrements of 32 rabbits. Two different colony types ("smooth" and "rough") were observed. In addition, cultural and biochemical properties were investigated following the methods generally used for yeast identification. The degree of infestation was the same in healthy rabbits as in those with enteritis. In mice and rabbits, oral or intravenous inoculation of pure cultures produced no symptoms. On the other hand, although the organism was assumed to have a beneficial effect, this could not be confirmed experimentally. Keywords
