Abstract
The first part of the paper reviews the known hazards of the components in epoxy resin systems which are in common use in surface coatings. The hazard to the user is largely confined to the skin for, apart from the solid resins grades, the uncured resins and the hardeners can both cause dermatitis after repeated skin contact and, more rarely, sensitization. Common applications of the epoxy resin based paints are discussed together with the risks to health in their use. Finally, mention is made of the best methods of control of the hazards by personnel selection, personal protection and hygiene. Keywords
