Abstract
We present a novel integrated-optic polarization-splitting directional coupler consisting of two channel waveguides coated with thin layers of metal with different thicknesses. Using an effective-index method and a recently developed matrix method, we show that such a structure can have extinction ratios of better than −20 dB and a loss of less than 1.0 dB.Keywords
