Abstract
On a Czapek-Dox medium containing glucose as the sole source of C, P. luteum produces as the main metabolic product luteic acid, a malonyl-poly-glucose, and in addition, smaller amts. of other laevo-rotatory polysaccharides, built up of mannose, galactose or fructose units in proportions varying with the age of the culture.
